Here is the number that should relax every parent of a toddler: across Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea combined, only 13 attractions have a height requirement at all. Everything else — and it is a long, wonderful list — your small child can ride today, exactly as tall as they are.

We first did Tokyo Disney with a 3-year-old in 2020, and again in 2023. This guide lists every height limit in both parks (in centimeters and inches, because the measuring stick at the ride entrance speaks metric), plus the rides where little ones are welcome with no bar to clear.

My daughter is 95cm — I don’t want to promise her a ride and then watch her get turned away at the entrance…

Good news: at 95cm she already clears the 90cm tier. Here is every height limit in both parks — measure at home, match it against this table, and promise only the sure things.

📏 How Tokyo Disney Height Checks Work

⚠️ One attraction is missing from the table on purpose: Space Mountain closed on July 31, 2024 for a complete rebuild. It returns in 2027 as Space Mountain Earthrise, so there is no height limit to plan around for now.
📏 How the measuring actually worked for us: Cast Members measured our children at the ride entrance, with their shoes on. Once a child cleared a height tier they were given a wristband, so we only had to go through it once that day.

🎠 What That Leaves for Toddlers (Spoiler: Almost Everything)

A child who clears none of the heights in the table still has a full day. Here is what is open to them.

🏰 Tokyo Disneyland — no height requirement

  • Pooh’s Hunny Hunt
  • It’s a Small World
  • Dumbo and the carousel
  • The classic Fantasyland dark rides
  • Every parade — no extra charge

This park is built for small children in a way that surprises even WDW veterans.

🌊 DisneySea — no height requirement

  • Toy Story Mania
  • Mermaid Lagoon — a gentle, mostly indoor land built for the youngest guests
  • The three transit rides — Venetian Gondolas, DisneySea Transit Steamer Line, DisneySea Electric Railway

Those transit rides are proper attractions in their own right when you are two, not just a way to get around.

🏰 The Fantasy Springs surprise: of the four new-area attractions, only Peter Pan (102cm) has a height requirement. Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Journey, Rapunzel’s Lantern Festival and Fairy Tinker Bell’s Busy Buggies are all open to any height — the one rule is that children must be able to sit unassisted (no riding on laps).

🔁 Rider Switch: How Both Parents Get to Ride

If your child is too small for an attraction, you do not have to skip it — and you do not have to queue twice. Tokyo Disney Resort calls this Rider Switch Service, and it is offered at every attraction that has a boarding requirement.

How it works

  1. Ask before you join the queue. Go to the Cast Member at the attraction entrance with your park tickets in hand and say you would like to use Rider Switch.
  2. The first adult queues normally, while the other waits outside with your child.
  3. When the first adult comes off, a Cast Member sets a return time on the second adult’s park ticket, based on how long the queue is.
  4. At that time the second adult goes back to the entrance, shows the ticket, says they are using Rider Switch — and walks on without queueing again.

Four things to know first

  • You need at least two adults. One has to stay with the child who is not riding.
  • One ride per person. Rider Switch is a way for everyone to ride once — not a way to ride twice.
  • If three of you are riding, one of you goes alone. Two people cannot both take the second turn.
  • On Disney Premier Access attractions, everyone who rides needs their own Disney Premier Access, and your party arrives together at the booked time.

The one mistake to avoid is joining the queue first and asking afterwards. Set it up at the entrance before anyone lines up.

👉 Now you know what your child can ride — you can book with confidence. English checkout takes about 3 minutes, and the e-ticket QR arrives by email.

💡 Tokyo Disney Height Tips From Our Toddler Trips

  • Measure at home, in shoes, before you promise anything — the 90cm tier is the big unlock (two junior coasters and the Nemo simulator)
  • Set up Rider Switch before anyone queues — not after. The Cast Member has to arrange it at the entrance, and it is the difference between both parents riding and only one of you riding
  • Plan around the bar, not over it — a 95cm child has a fantastic day; the 102cm tier can wait for the next trip, and that is a lovely excuse to come back

❓ FAQ

Which Tokyo Disney rides have height limits?

Only 13 across both parks: at 81cm Baymax; at 90cm Splash Mountain, Gadget’s Go Coaster, Flounder’s Flying Fish Coaster and Nemo & Friends SeaRider; at 102cm Big Thunder, Star Tours, Soaring, Tower of Terror and Peter Pan’s Never Land Adventure; at 117cm Journey to the Center of the Earth, Indiana Jones and Raging Spirits (which also has a 195cm maximum).

Is my child measured in shoes?

Yes — measuring happens at the attraction entrance with shoes on. Once your child clears a height tier they receive a wristband, so you won’t re-measure at every ride.

Do the Fantasy Springs rides have height limits?

Only Peter Pan’s Never Land Adventure (102cm). Frozen Journey, Rapunzel’s Lantern Festival and Fairy Tinker Bell’s Busy Buggies have no height requirement — children just need to be able to sit unassisted, without riding on a lap.

Can both parents ride if our toddler is too small?

Yes — Tokyo Disney offers Rider Switch Service: one parent rides while the other waits with the child, then they swap without lining up again. Ask a Cast Member at the entrance before you join the queue.

Which park is better for a toddler who can’t clear 90cm?

Both work well, but Disneyland has more classic dark rides with no requirement at all, while DisneySea offers Mermaid Lagoon’s gentle indoor area plus the boats and trains. Our full comparison is below.

📝 Plan the Rest of the Trip

Heights sorted — now the fun decisions. Start with the one that fills up first:

🏨 Book your hotel first

Tokyo Disney hotels can book up months ahead — especially for weekends and school holidays — so lock in a room before you plan anything else. Traveling with a little one? Check whether they can share your bed for free; it can make a real difference to the price.
